We are seeking an Artificial Intelligence Scientist to support the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH), world renowned National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Frederick, MD. Responsibilities- Coordinates with imaging scientists for acquisition of imaging data and conducts research as directed by the Government involving and related to imaging and artificial intelligence in support of IRF-Frederick.
- Consults with scientific staff and the Government to ensure data meets with scientific objectives. Coordinates overall study logistics with other core laboratory services.
- Plans, coordinates, and conducts approved projects at the direction of the Government.
- Analyze and interpret imaging data from various modalities to support research studies on select agent viruses.
- Develop, train, and validate machine learning and deep learning models for image segmentation, feature extraction, and quantification tasks.
- Collaborate with the imaging team to design and implement new algorithms or modify existing ones to improve image analysis accuracy and efficiency.
- Generate reports and visualizations to communicate findings and trends in imaging data to researchers and stakeholders.
- Stay updated with advancements in AI and image analysis techniques relevant to biomedical research and apply this knowledge to enhance IRF capabilities.
- Work closely with the other functional area leads at the IRF to integrate imaging analysis results with other data for a comprehensive understanding of viral pathogenesis.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and procedures while working in a BSL4 environment.
- Publishes results in peer-reviewed, ideally high-impact, national and international journals.
- May direct day to day functions of IRF-Frederick scientific work; provides guidance on experimental design and implementation and strives to quickly resolve problems.
- Communicates progress or problems with approved programs and projects to IRF-Frederick contract and Government leadership.
- Provides written progress updates as stated in Reports and Deliverables section (Delivery Schedule).
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field with a focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, or image processing.
- Strong theoretical foundations in machine learning, deep learning, and image analysis techniques with experience working with biomedical imaging data is desired.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB, along with experience using popular deep learning frameworks like Tensor Flow, PyTorch, or Keras.
- Familiarity with biomedical imaging data and experience working with image processing libraries such as OpenCV or ITK-SNAP.
- Experience with deep learning-based image segmentation having coding knowledge of MONAI framework, nnUNet, PyTorch and python statistical analysis tools.
