The Frederick National Laboratory is operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first‑in‑human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

Program DescriptionThe Laboratory & Animal Sciences Program (LASP) provides exceptional quality animal care and technical support services for laboratory and animal research performed at the National Cancer Institute. This Principal Scientist position will investigate ways of standardizing the growth of normal (non‑cancerous) human organoids, utilize organoids to model and study human disease, and perform and publish independent research.
Key Responsibilities- Initiate, direct, and execute all pre‑clinical scientific research and/or development strategies.
- Exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
- Investigate the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles to potential inventions, products, and problems.
- Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience; direct the work of other staff members.
- Maintain broad knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art principles and theories.
- Make major contributions to scientific literature and conferences.
- Serve as spokesperson on corporate research and development and advise top management.
- Participate in development of patent applications.
- Interface with various departments and serve as internal consultant.
- Accountable for meeting own target which will impact the discipline.
- PhD degree from an accredited college or university (CHEA). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- At least 8 years of direct experience in organoid or stem cell biology.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Directed pre‑clinical research efforts of other scientists in organoid or stem cell research.
- Potential exposure to infectious material, requiring medical clearance and immunizations.
