job summary: the electrician performs complex technical work, on a journeyman level, in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service, repair of commercial electrical systems, equipment, fixtures and related electro‑mechanical systems in approximately 8‑10 assigned buildings, covering approximately 1 million square feet.
work year calendar and hours- 12-month position (260 days/year), 8 hours per day
- support salary scale grade s12: $30.11 per hour; starting
under the fair labor and standards act this position is non‑exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the frederick county public school system.

- perform daily preventive maintenance of the electrical systems in fcps’ facilities totaling 1,000,000 square feet.
- inspect, test, service electrical and electromechanical systems, and repair malfunctioning equipment.
- document cost of repairs and services, keep records of time and materials, and provide updates to the supervisor.
- ensure that electrical distribution systems are safe, meet power requirements, and comply with applicable codes.
- inspect and test elements of electrical systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions.
- perform required repairs through replacement of inoperative parts or re‑wiring of circuits.
- provide estimates for repair or replacement costs beyond capability.
- calculate branch circuit loads, interpret electrical wiring diagrams and schematics, and determine wiring methods.
- troubleshoot and repair electric controls, motor control centers, and programmable logic controls.
- contribute to oversight and professional development of electrician apprentices.
- work safely with electrical systems, wiring, and currents that pose serious injury risk.
- perform work in accordance with building code, safety regulation, and trade standards.
- identify and report hazards, protecting self and others.
- properly inspect, operate, and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
- work efficiently, demonstrating position‑appropriate independence and self‑direction.
- obtain and retain required certifications.
- attend and participate in training, satisfying testing requirements.
- travel frequently between facilities, operating vehicles per fcps regulation.
- participate in meetings and training to plan and execute tasks according to changing priorities and safeguard against occupational hazards.
- perform daily repairs to the electrical systems in fcps’ facilities totaling 1,000,000 square feet.
- build tours of each facility, ensuring all mechanical systems operate correctly; read and review electrical schematics and drawings.
- complete administrative tasks including work orders (corrective and preventive), requests, and accounts for weekly time reports.
- provide exceptional customer service.
- maintain a professional appearance and safe work environment, wearing uniforms, approved footwear and appropriate ppe.
- use computerized systems including cmms, office software, lighting controls and building automation systems.
- other duties as assigned.
- maintain work area in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner; comply with osha, trade‑specific and fcps standards, policies and procedures.
- high school diploma or ged equivalent.
- 3–5 years of related experience.
- state of maryland journeyperson electrician license.
- valid driver’s license; ability to operate vehicle per board of education policy.
- commercial electrical work experience.
- familiarity with the fcps policies, goals and programs.
- knowledge and use of culturally responsive practices.
- establish and maintain effective professional relationships with co‑workers, school staff, regulatory officials, utilities, consultants, and vendors; provide exceptional customer service.
- work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisors.
