the general maintenance mechanic performs general maintenance and repairs on buildings, grounds and equipment, and a variety of machinery and equipment on 18-20 assigned buildings, covering approximately 1.8 million square feet of space. Work in this class is characterized by general and varied construction or repair work involving knowledge of several maintenance areas such as, but not limited to general maintenance, hvac/r, carpentry, and masonry.
This position reports to the maintenance area supervisor.
- perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to building components, including doors, hardware, partitions, flooring, ceilings, and masonry.
- maintain and repair general facility equipment and fixtures.
- assist with carpentry and roofing-related maintenance tasks.
- conduct preventive maintenance procedures.
- perform inspections to identify and report issues requiring further attention.
- ensure work areas adhere to occupational safety and cleanliness standards.
- provide exceptional customer service and maintain professional relationships throughout the organization.
- assist licensed hvac/r, electricians, and plumbers with tasks as needed.
- perform basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance to support hvac, electrical, and plumbing systems under the guidance of licensed personnel.
- support the servicing and cleaning of mechanical systems, such as boilers, to ensure operational efficiency.
- enter time and material on a tablet daily utilizing computerized maintenance management program.
- maintain record keeping and providing inventory updates.
- procurement of parts needed to perform repairs.
- reconciling and tendering of receipts in people soft.

- high school diploma or ged equivalent.
- two (2) years of paid professional experience in the construction field in any one, or combination, of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, air-conditioning, heating, roofing, or equipment maintenance.
- vocational training in a construction / commercial field.
- maintenance experience in large, institutional facilities.
- familiarity with the fcps policies, goals and programs.
- valid driver's license and the ability to operate a vehicle in accordance with board of education policies.
- osha certification.
- position will require continual monitoring of a company-provided communications device (cellular phone) and the ability to respond in a timely manner to facility emergencies.
- ability to work under stress within limited time constraints, and adapt to changing situations and conditions.
- ability to operate a vehicle in accordance with board of education policies.
- frequent travel between multiple facilities.
- ability to work varied shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- present a professional appearance and maintain a safe work environment by consistently wearing company provided uniforms and approved footwear, and other appropriate ppe for the work task being performed.

- able to access elevated and subsurface work spaces via ladders, lifts, scaffolding, hatches, and manholes.
