Non‑exempt (compensatory and/or overtime eligible; additional compensation includes tool allowance); full‑time; 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; full benefits. This skilled position is responsible for the complex repair, adjustment and maintenance of trucks, heavy equipment and other equipment (large and small) used by the Division of Solid Waste and Recycling (DSWR). Supervision is received from the Landfill Supervisor through the Division Director.

NOTE: The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions, which are calculated per County policy. For external hires, offers are made at the base wage rate.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Inspect, repair and/or replace heavy equipment components and parts
  • Inspect, repair and/or replace brakes, suspension parts and exhaust systems
  • Perform general tune‑ups and fuel system repairs and diagnostics for gasoline systems (carburetor and fuel injection) and diesel systems
  • Use computerized vehicle analysis equipment to diagnose electronic systems
  • Repair/charge air conditioning systems; use a coolant recycling system
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems and accessories
  • Provide general maintenance care for all types of DSWR vehicles and equipment
  • Respond to off‑site service calls
  • Utilize a computerized system to track work orders and complete records of work performed, parts used, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

& REQUIREMENTS
  • High school graduation, or the equivalent
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience in the repair and service of heavy equipment and trucks
  • Possession of a valid Commercial class A driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
