General Statement of Duties:
The Mammography Technologist is responsible for the performance of mammography and/or assisting with other related radiographic breast procedures (e.g.; galactogram, stereotactic breast biopsy, et cetera). All work performed will be in compliance with Federal (MQSA) and State (Texas Department of State Health Services) regulations as well as with ACR guidelines.
- Education:
One of the following:- Certificate of training from a Radiologic Technology Program
- Associates of Science or higher in Radiologic Technology
- Experience:
none required - Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
- Preferred:
Previous experience in the hospital role
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (M) certification
- Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification from Texas Department of Health
- Responsible for the proper positioning and obtaining necessary views and compression for Mammography, label mammograms performed as required by ACR and documents breast exam findings, history, and previous films if any.
- Responsible for the proper use of computer system (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, proper completion of exams, capture charges).
- Must be able to complete assignments independently and to work as part of a team; to take instructions from supervisors; to exercise problem-solving skills; and to interact with co-workers, supervisors, patients, vendors and the public in a professional and pleasant manner.
- Must insure that all necessary paperwork for patient contact before and after examinations is completed properly, mailed and tracked
- Will demonstrate the ability to assess a situation considers alternatives and chooses an appropriate course of action.
- Coordinate the test and treatment of each patient with the appropriate personnel, i.e. Surgeon, Radiologist, Attending Physician, Laboratory. etc.

- May have access to radiopharmaceuticals, contrast agents and other non-controlled medications as appropriate to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Will take “CALL” as necessary on a rotational basis.

- Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.
