The Design Drafter is a creative role that enhances knowledge in drafting and modeling of steel fabricated components and plastic thermoformed products. The Design Technician will provide valuable support to internal customers through the delivery of drafted documentation, quality designs, and samples in a timely and efficient manner utilizing CREO design software.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize CREO software to create, update, and maintain released/approved product documentation; models, assemblies, drawings, PDFs, material specifications, etc.
  • Evaluate and incorporate appropriate design elements in CREO software to transform initial rough product sketches into 3D working models and drawings, ensuring compliance with therapeutic and metal fabrication standards, Hampel’s production capabilities, and the company’s traditional market style.
  • Assist with researching and selecting suppliers for sourcing pre‑production and production components.
  • Support Product Development staff with day‑to‑day project functions, including researching product specifications, contacting vendors, and other support functions.
  • Conduct internal patent searches and investigate pertinent industry design criteria, maintaining references.
  • Assist Product Development / Realization staff with testing of prototypes or samples, accumulating and documenting relevant test data for evaluation.
  • Draw upon experience with other manufacturing processes (blow molding, injection molding, sheet metal forming, machining, etc.) to recommend or determine the best manufacturing method.
  • Ensure that project folders and activities meet current ISO standards and requirements.
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of checking fixtures and standards for all existing and approved design projects to guarantee consistent product quality.
  • Employ good written and oral communication skills across multiple functional work groups, either within a team environment or independently, to increase the chance of project success.
  • Work independently as a self‑starter based on instructions, directions, or requests received from supervisors.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing relevant technical publications as needed and approved.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to the Product Design Manager regarding the Product Development Group’s procedures and practices.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to the Product Design Manager regarding the ISO procedures and how they are implemented at Hampel.
