Physician – Anesthesiologist – United States Department of Veterans Affairs
Pay Range: $350,000 – $400,000 per year.
Location of service includes OR, PACU, ICU, ward, and out‑of‑OR procedural settings such as electrophysiology, interventional radiology, cath lab, gastroenterology, and pain clinic.
SummaryThe staff anesthesiologist will provide effective delivery of anesthetic care throughout the facility in accordance with VA Directives and Joint Commission accreditation standards.
Qualifications- United States citizenship (non‑citizens only if no qualified citizens can be recruited).
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent medical/osteopathic degree approved by VA.
- Unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or D.C.
- Completed residency training approved by VA in an accredited core specialty, eligible for board certification.
- Residency may be ACGME, AOA, or other accepted programs with minimum five years U.S. practice.
- Current residency training under ACGME/AOA can be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) with full license.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Physical requirements:
visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity; ability to walk, stand, bend, lift, transfer patients; exposure to infection requires protective clothing; occasional exposure to combative patients. - Must be mature, flexible, sensible, able to handle stressful situations and shift priorities.
- Obtain informed consent and provide risk/benefit information before procedures.
- Evaluate patients preoperatively; assess health status, labs, vital signs, and determine optimization needs.
- Provide preoperative inpatient and outpatient consultations and operating room evaluations.
- Perform intraoperative anesthesia care using MAC, regional, and general techniques for ASA class 1–6; proficient in peripheral, arterial, and central venous access.
- Administer postoperative care in PACU, managing ventilation, hemodynamics, and pain.
- Provide airway management to critically ill patients throughout the hospital and cover on‑call duties as requested.
- Engage in educational duties – lectures, case presentations, perioperative teaching; mentor nursing staff, medical students, residents.
- Conduct research and collaborate on clinical or basic science projects.
- Participate in hospital committees, in‑service programs, and maintain CME requirements; maintain active license.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
