The Spotsylvania County Public Schools (SCPS) system offers a chance to join a diverse, collaborative teaching team. As a Middle School Teacher – English for Speakers of Other Languages, you will develop and implement instructional programs that meet the Virginia Standards of Learning and support a diverse student population.
Essential Job Functions- Meet and instruct students in assigned locations and at the designated times.
- Design coherent instruction based on subject matter knowledge, current instructional practices, student needs, community, and curriculum goals.
- Plan instruction to achieve objectives that align with Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines.
- Prepare classes; provide evidence of lesson preparation upon request of the building administrator.
- Diagnose individual, group, and program needs; plan appropriate use of time, materials, resources.
- Evaluate student progress; provide prompt, specific feedback; maintain records and prepare progress reports.
- Use a variety of assessment strategies and instruments to inform short and long‑term instructional decisions.
- Administer standardized tests per established procedures.
- Identify and communicate student performance expectations.
- Document student learning gains with appropriate assessment instruments.
- Demonstrate an understanding of curriculum, subject, and current instructional practices.
- Create learning experiences that make content meaningful for all students.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) required by Virginia and the School Board.
- Acceptable record of prior teaching experience, as applicable.
- Current Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License in a specific endorsement area.
- Prior teaching experience within a public school system.

Employment TermsEmployment may be offered as a 10‑month (200‑day) contract, requiring a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. The position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees.
