Middle School Music Teacher – Band (26/27 SY)

Essential Job Functions- Meet with and instruct students in assigned locations at designated times.
- Design coherent instruction based on subject knowledge, current practices, student needs, community context, and curriculum goals.
- Plan instruction to achieve objectives aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines.
- Prepare for assigned classes and provide evidence of lesson preparation upon request.
- Diagnose individual, group, and program needs and plan for appropriate use of time, materials, and resources.
- Evaluate student progress, provide specific feedback, maintain records and prepare progress reports.
- Use a variety of assessment strategies to inform short‑ and long‑term instructional decisions.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with established procedures.
- Identify and communicate student performance expectations.
- Document learning gains using appropriate assessment instruments.
- Demonstrate understanding of curriculum, subject, and current instructional practices.
- Create learning experiences that make the subject matter meaningful for all students.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ability to obtain the appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the School Board.
- Acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.
- Currently possess a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Post‑Graduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s).
- Prior teaching experience within a public school system.
Employment may be offered as a 10‑month (200‑day) contract, with a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. The position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation may be awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
