- Meet and instruct students in assigned locations and at the designated times.
- Design coherent instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, the community, and curriculum goals.
- Plan instruction to achieve desired objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines.
- Prepare for classes assigned and provide evidence of lesson preparation upon request of the building administrator(s).
- Diagnose individual, group, and program needs and plan for the appropriate use of time, materials, and resources to match the ability and needs of all students.
- Evaluate students' progress; provide students with prompt specific evaluative feedback, maintain appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
- Use a variety of assessment strategies and instruments to make both short‑term and long‑range instructional decisions to improve student learning.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with established procedures.
- Identify and communicate specific student performance expectations.
- Document student learning gains using appropriate assessment instruments.
- Demonstrate an understanding of curriculum, subject, and current instructional practices.
- Create learning experiences that make the subject matter meaningful for all students.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.
- An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.
- Currently possess a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s).
- Prior teaching experience within a public school system.

Employment may be offered as a 10‑Month (200 Day), 10.5‑Month (210 Day), 11‑Month (220 Day) or 12‑Month (240 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation is awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
