Applications Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing
Obsidian Solutions Group (OSG) seeks a customer‑focused, technically capable Applications Engineer to support quoting, technical intake, and process selection for advanced manufacturing projects at our Fredericksburg, VA facility. The role ensures prototype and small‑batch manufacturing work is evaluated accurately, communicated clearly, and transitioned smoothly into production.

Job SummaryThis is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing team during a time of expansion. As part of our Advanced Manufacturing group you will own customer engagement, quoting, and job setup while gaining exposure to additive manufacturing, urethane casting, finishing, and quality processes. The role offers meaningful opportunities for growth in R&D support, workflow development, or future movement toward production management or technical leadership.
SpecificResponsibilities
- Customer Engagement & Quoting – Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customer inquiries, quote requests, and general questions; review models, drawings, and specifications; recommend materials, processes, and finishes; generate accurate quotes; communicate lead times, technical considerations, and project expectations; follow up on outstanding quotes.
- Job Setup & Production Coordination – Create and maintain organized job folders and documentation; translate requirements into production instructions; coordinate priorities, deadlines, and resources; track progress and update customers; ensure accurate communication of requirements.
- Technical Support – Perform light CAD edits; assist with file preparation for additive manufacturing or molding; support engineering reviews, DFM considerations, and technical discussions; contribute to internal documentation such as SOPs and job instructions.
- Continuous Improvement & Cross‑Functional Support – Participate in workflow evaluations; recommend process improvements; support internal R&D builds; collaborate with production and quality staff; assist with light administrative tasks related to quote tracking and job creation.
- Experience in additive manufacturing, manufacturing support, prototyping, or a related technical field.
- Ability to interpret CAD models, drawings, and basic GD&T.
- Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to customers.
- Familiarity with SLA, FDM, or urethane casting processes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, maintain organized records, and follow structured workflows.
- Comfort working in a fast‑paced, hands‑on production environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in customer communication and job setup.
- Physical Requirements – On‑site role in a manufacturing and R&D facility; work near machinery, tools, and materials; comfortable navigating shop environments; occasional support for demonstrations and testing.
