About the Opportunity
W.C. Spratt, Inc. is seeking an experienced Pipe Crew Laborer to work on local underground utility construction projects within 50 miles of Fredericksburg, VA. This full‑time position offers competitive hourly pay of $30.00 – $35.00, benefits, and the chance to join a respected, employee‑owned company (ESOP) where your skills in water, sewer, and storm pipe installation are valued.
Key Responsibilities- Lay various types of pipe for water lines, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and drains.
- Align and position pipes to prepare for welding, sealing, or joining.
- Check slopes for conformance to specifications and engineered plans.
- Cut, thread, hammer, and weld pipe using saws, pipe threaders, benders, or other tools.
- Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
- Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
- Plan pipe installation or repair according to project specifications.
- Set up pipe lasers and grade ditches accurately.
- Maintain safe and organized job sites following W.C. Spratt’s quality and safety standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Track Hoe operator.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in cutting, threading, and welding pipes.
- Minimum 1 year of experience reading blueprints or engineered plans.
- Experience installing water, sewer, and storm pipes.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work on active construction sites.
- Fluent in English with strong communication skills.
- Ability to pass a pre‑employment background check and drug test.
- Experience operating wheel loaders, skid steers, or excavators.
- Familiarity with GPS‑grade control or site layout tools.
- Knowledge of civil sitework and underground utility construction practices.
