Job Description & How to Apply Below
Industrial Air Compressor Field Technician Based in:
Fredericksburg/Stafford/Williamsburg/Petersburg, VAStep into a role where every day brings a new challenge across customer sites in Virginia. You’ll represent Ingersoll Rand’s Industrial Technologies and Services division, keeping mission-critical compressed air systems running at peak performance.

A day in your boots

Morning starts with a review of the service queue and a scan of technical manuals. Your first stop: a facility running rotary screw compressors. You’ll install, commission, or diagnose equipment using precision measuring tools, then document findings in clear, bill-ready reports. By midday, you might be training a customer’s maintenance team on preventative practices. In the afternoon, you’ll pivot to a site operating reciprocating units or a Centac/ECC centrifugal compressor—troubleshooting controls, dryers, cooling towers, and filtration before wrapping up your expense report and communicating recommended actions to the factory team.

Throughout, you carry an ownership mindset—managing your time, materials, and customer relationships with integrity.

What you’ll handle

Install, service, repair, and maintain rotary screw, reciprocating, Centac, and ECC compressors, plus related compressed air components.

Use precision instruments to diagnose performance issues and verify corrective actions.

Leverage operations and parts manuals to guide accurate maintenance and repair.

Provide technical guidance and on-the-spot training for customers, sales partners, and service trainees.

Operate independently in the field—identify problems, recommend solutions, and communicate updates to manufacturing.

Produce detailed, legible service documentation suitable for customer billing.

Maintain timely, accurate timecards and expense records; uphold high ethical standards in all business matters.

What you bring2–5 years diagnosing industrial/commercial mechanical systems; exposure to compressed air, centrifugal technologies, and controls is a plus. Experience starting up and servicing rotary and centrifugal air compressors, dryers, cooling towers, and filtration is valued.
