- Operate a 26 ft box truck safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and DOT regulations
- Accurately and efficiently load and unload cargo, often using a manual or powered pallet jack
- Back the truck to the customer dock and maintain correct positioning and safety
- Ensure compliance with federal and state safety regulations and maintain professional driving behavior
- Communicate with customer representatives in a pleasant, respectful, and efficient manner
- Coordinate with dispatchers for route and delivery information
- Comply with DOT requirements including drug and alcohol testing (random and reasonable‑suspicion tests)
- Secure cargo and properly arrange and balance it within the vehicle
- Identify and fix any mechanical issues before driving
- Perform other duties as required
- CDL‑A license required
- Minimum of 2 years CDL‑A driving experience within the last 4 years (3+ years preferred)
- Meet D.O.T. qualification requirements, FMCSR 391.41
- Experience in load securement, route planning, and navigating various road conditions
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to handle sensitive cargo with care
- Detail‑oriented mindset required
- Must have a TWIC or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card within 90 days, if required
- Frequently carry, push, or pull freight weighing 1–125 pounds
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Frequently reach for freight at waist level and occasionally above shoulder height or below waist level
- Shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals (not applicable on all trucks)
- Frequently squat or crouch to handle and position freight
- Climb in and out of the truck 4–6 feet, 8–10 times daily with assistance from various steps and handholds; occasionally bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching, and balancing
- Conduct pre‑trip inspection
- Fuel vehicles and check engine oil/coolant levels, perform preventative maintenance
- Spend at least 5% of the day standing and 5% walking on surfaces such as wood, metal, and concrete (may be slippery or wet)
- Reach above shoulder level, at waist level, and below waist level for maneuvering and directing the controls
Work may include exposure to diesel fumes, airborne particles, and occasionally harsh weather conditions while loading or unloading. Time is spent both inside the truck cab (extended periods of sitting with engine noise and vibration) and outside at customer sites, terminals, or on public roadways. Noise levels vary from quiet inside the cab to moderate or loud at delivery or pick‑up locations.
Compensation$23.00 – $26.00 per hour, plus a $2.00 per hour shift differential for overnight shifts. Base compensation is determined by experience, knowledge, and other objective business considerations.
