Mechanical Engineer-in-Training

CBCL is seeking a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training to join our Industrial Services team, with a focus on supporting industrial pulp and paper projects across Atlantic Canada!

As our ideal candidate, you are an early-career mechanical engineer who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow within an established industrial team. You bring a strong technical foundation, curiosity about industrial operations, and an interest in mechanical systems used in pulp and paper environments, such as piping, pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, pressure systems, ventilation, material handling, utilities, and process support systems.

You are motivated, detail-oriented, and excited to work with engineers and technologists to deliver thoughtful, client-focused design solutions.

• Support the design and delivery of industrial mechanical projects for pulp and paper facilities, including upgrades, equipment replacements, process support systems, and plant infrastructure improvements;
• Assist with calculations, equipment layouts, piping design, specifications, reports, cost estimates, and technical memoranda under the guidance of senior engineers;
• Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to coordinate mechanical design requirements with process, electrical, civil, structural, and environmental considerations;
• Participate in site visits, field investigations, and construction reviews to observe existing conditions, document findings, and support design development;
• Develop working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, safety practices, and industry requirements related to industrial mechanical systems;
• Support construction administration activities, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to requests for information, and helping confirm that work aligns with design intent;
• Assist with commissioning, start-up support, and troubleshooting activities for industrial mechanical systems; and
• Prepare clear technical documentation, meeting notes, reports, and presentations for internal and client use.

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, with registration or eligibility for registration as an Engineer-in-Training with APEGNB;
• Previous co-op, internship, or early-career experience in consulting engineering, industrial environments, manufacturing, pulp and paper, or related mechanical systems would be considered an asset;
• Interest in industrial mechanical design, including piping systems, pumping systems, tanks, pressure equipment, utilities, and process support infrastructure;
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, Solid Works, Inventor, or similar modelling/design software would be considered an asset;
• Detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn, with a positive team-focused attitude;
• Ability to manage priorities, ask thoughtful questions, and work effectively in a deadline-driven project environment;
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues, clients, contractors, and vendors; and
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to industrial job sites within Atlantic Canada.
