New Brunswick Midwifery is Expanding!

We’re looking for passionate midwives to join the Horizon Health Network team in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Whether you’re experienced or just starting your career, we have flexible opportunities available with full-time, part-time, and casual positions.

Our midwives provide comprehensive primary maternity care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. We’re committed to patient and family centered care, excellence in practice, and strong teamwork.

The Fredericton Midwifery Centre

Since implementation in 2017, midwives have worked in a unionized employee model with Horizon Health Network, providing paid vacation and sick leave, pension, health benefits, overtime and on-call pay. The Fredericton Midwifery Centre is a stand‑alone clinic on Fredericton’s Northside with administrative, overhead and professional development funding provided by the employer. Caseload is 3 clients per month per full‑time midwife, drawn from a catchment area within 1 hour of the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital.

The Chalmers is a Level 3 hospital featuring an NICU and 24/7 ER and Obstetrical coverage. Caseload selection prioritises vulnerable populations as well as clients interested in homebirth. We support both in hospital and home births, with a homebirth rate of approximately 30%.

Midwives work in a flexible team with a focus on work‑life balance for a midwife’s individual needs. Our team places a strong emphasis on teamwork and communication, both within the midwifery group and the larger interprofessional team, and on a high standard of clinical care, ensuring our clients are receiving thorough informed choice discussions containing the most current clinical guidance. Midwifery is also still a young profession in New Brunswick and thus there are many opportunities to sit on Horizon‑specific, local and provincial committees.
