Job Description & How to Apply Below

New Brunswick Midwifery is Expanding! We’re looking for passionate midwives to join the Horizon Health Network team in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Whether you’re experienced or just starting your career, we have flexible opportunities available with full‑time, part‑time, and casual positions.

Our midwives provide comprehensive primary maternity care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. We’re committed to patient and family‑centered care, excellence in practice, and strong teamwork.

The Fredericton Midwifery Centre has been operating since 2017. Midwives work in a unionised employee model with Horizon Health Network, providing paid vacation and sick leave, pension, health benefits, overtime and on‑call pay. The centre is a stand‑alone clinic on Fredericton’s Northside, funded by the employer for administrative, overhead and professional development.

Caseload is 3 clients per month per full‑time midwife, drawn from a catchment area within 1 hour of Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, a Level 3 hospital with NICU and 24/7 ER and obstetrical coverage. Caseload selection prioritises vulnerable populations and clients interested in homebirth. We support both in‑hospital and home births, with a homebirth rate of approximately 30%.

Midwives work in a flexible team with a focus on work‑life balance. Our team emphasises teamwork and communication, both within the midwifery group and the larger interprofessional team, and on a high standard of clinical care, ensuring thorough informed‑choice discussions consistent with current clinical guidance. Midwifery is a young profession in New Brunswick, offering opportunities to sit on Horizon‑specific, local and provincial committees.

Fredericton is a bright, family‑friendly city with universities, a robust outdoor activity network, green spaces, old‑growth forest and the Wolastoq River. It hosts art galleries, the annual Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, Fredericton Playhouse, a craft‑beer community, beaches, parks and is close to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. We offer work‑life balance with a laid‑back East Coast lifestyle and opportunities for professional growth.
