Pediatric Hospitalist; Nursery

Location: FHN Memorial Hospital – Freeport, IL

FHN is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Pediatrician to serve as a dedicated leader in our Level II Nursery
. This is a high-impact role where you will serve as the primary physician for our newborn population. By transitioning to a dedicated hospitalist model, you will provide consistency and expert care to the newest members of our community, replacing the traditional rotating call model. You will work in a supportive environment that prioritizes patient safety and adheres to best practices in neonatal care.

  Enjoy a consistent schedule of 24-hour shifts (7 days on, 7 days off). Given our annual volume, this model offers an exceptional balance between clinical duty and personal time.
• Level II Nursery: Manage a Level II nursery with approximately 240 deliveries per year
  . The unit handles infants down to 32 weeks gestation
  , including "feeder and grower" care.
• Critical Care Management: You will attend high-risk deliveries and provide coverage for all Cesarean sections (approx. 85/year). The unit utilizes positive pressure ventilation (RAM cannula) stabilization for up to 6 hours prior to transfer if necessary.
• Support & Technology: You are never alone; the unit is supported by a 24/7 Tele-NICU consultation unit, allowing immediate access to neonatology experts for complex cases.
• Quality Focus: We follow all ILPQC (Illinois Perinatal Quality Collaborative) newborn initiatives. You will champion these best practices to maintain our excellent quality compliance.

  Perform routine nursery procedures, including circumcisions in our dedicated procedure room.

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics.
• Current Illinois medical license or eligibility to obtain one.
• NRP, PALS certification required.
• Proficiency in neonatal stabilization, intubation, and umbilical line placement is highly desired.
• Excellent communication skills and a cooperative spirit for team-based care.

• Compensation Range: $285,000 - $330,000. Salary based on experience and qualifications.
