OVERVIEW
Provides hands-on patient care including vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, bladder scanning, telemetry, catheter and drain care, and other clinical support under RN supervision. Also assists with call lights, documentation, supplies, maintaining a safe patient environment, floating to units as needed, and training new team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvides patient care as assigned and per routine as defined by educational scope, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
Answers call lights in timely and appropriate manner.
Documents care provided according to standards.
Maintains a clean work and patient environment.
Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
Floats to various units based on identified patient care needs.
Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.
Training/precepting new partners in collaboration with unit educator.
Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) with lab personnel
Bladder scanning procedure reviewed
Bladder scanner training complete (check off sheet for competency)
Attaching patient to remote telemetry or bedside cardiac monitor
Managing and reporting collection devices:
Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measures
Indwelling catheters: care and output measures
Nasogastric tubes to suction
Surgical drains under direction of supervising RN
Competent in completing vital signs:
Manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RNDiscontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN:
Indwelling (Foley) catheters
Nasogastric tubes
Peripherally inserted intravenous catheters
Similar devices as appropriate

Completion of a CNA program.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURECurrent CNA certificate in applicable state.
Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
