As a Launch Mechanical Design Engineer in the Vehicle Engineering organization, you will be an important part of that mission as you lead the design and engineering development of new and modified parts and assemblies on our vehicles.

In this position you will be part of an experienced and highly skilled team within the Closures, Exteriors and Lighting group where you will be responsible for the continued ramp, stabilization, optimization, and holistic sustaining of components and assemblies.

Projects will be focused on improving the overall quality, cost, performance and/or manufacturing ease through design changes of parts and assemblies. The position offers the opportunity to work on completely new mechanical design engineering designs and to have your designs be a part of our vehicles.

Your primary responsibilities will be ownership of the engineering and design as well as cross‑function team leadership and project management. The position provides a great opportunity for growth and to further your knowledge and experience across a broad spectrum of part designs, manufacturing methods, and cross‑functional disciplines.

• Lead new and/or modified part and/or assembly design projects to improve manufacturability, quality, cost, and/or performance of our production vehicles
• Take over and own design changes from new product development engineers during production launch and sustaining phases
• Lead and support manufacturing, quality, and field reliability issues
• Own product improvements (cost, complexity reductions) and refinement of product specifications
• Fully understand Tesla factory and supplier processes and manufacturing methods equipment
• Lead root cause and corrective analysis of production and field issues
• Collaborate with Field Quality & Reliability to drive warranty improvements
• Create and present business case summaries for new or modified designs
• Create detailed RFQ documents and CAD data packages (2D/3D) for sourcing of suppliers for new or modified parts and assemblies
• Technical project management of supplier/development partners

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Experience with owning mechanical designs and completing projects from design concept until production
• Experience and desire to work within a manufacturing environment
• Skilled with managing multiple projects at the same time
• Experience with technical project management of suppliers (both internal and external) to support overall program milestones and prototype/production build events

$92,720 – $159,600 annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
