Safety Restraints Design Engineer, Air Bag Systems
The Safety Restraints Design and Release Engineer owns all aspects of airbag systems from inception, developing conceptual designs and production releases to in‑service vehicle life. Responsibilities include Tier‑1 nomination and management, vehicle packaging, drawing releases, component and system validation, ensuring homologation requirements are met, and providing preparation and manufacturing support.
What You’ll Do- Support restraint system integration work from design concept to vehicle validation. Provide engineering expertise to suppliers and internal interfacing departments Studio and Vehicle Engineering, working closely with the CAE team to provide design inputs that optimize occupant restraint performance.
- Package components using CAD (CATIA preferred) to provide robust and efficient designs for manufacturing and general assembly processes. Optimize for cost, weight, and commercial targets.
- Use basic program management skills to ensure suppliers meet timing, quality, cost, and validation deliverables. Serve as the main interaction point for all supplier interfaces, delivering results under restrictive schedules and limited resources.
- Apply failure avoidance tools and processes (DFMEA/FMA) to restraint components.
- Oversee supplier component DVP and control system‑level testing to ensure required performance before dynamic sled and vehicle testing.
- Analyze test results and identify necessary adjustments to either the restraint commodity or interfacing components, determining the most effective resolution.
- Support dynamic sled and vehicle crash tests and homologation submissions.
- Have knowledge of CAE analysis and restraint system integration and optimization.
- A good understanding and experience in Vehicle Safety Restraint Systems and/or vehicle crash worthiness (though a recent graduate with a relevant background is also suitable).
- Strong engineering fundamentals and mechanical aptitude for problem‑solving.
- Effective verbal and written skills to communicate technical issues with peers and suppliers, ensuring timely delivery of all components.
- Excellent organizational skills, self‑starting and self‑motivated.
- Demonstrated ability to multi‑task and adapt to evolving priorities.
- Proficient computer skills (MS Office Suite).
- CAD knowledge (Catia preferred).

$92,720 – $206,520 annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay may vary based on location, knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include other elements depending on the position offered.
