Overview

Join Tesla’s Bay Area Prototype Machine Shop as a CMM Programmer. This role supports engineers and technicians across the organization by providing complex and critical machined components and assemblies to meet aggressive program objectives. The CMM Programmer will collaborate with machinists, fabricators, engineers, and leadership to enhance the design of systems and products from concept through production.

What You’ll Do
  • Efficiently program, simulate, set up, and operate a variety of 3‑5 axis bridge CMMs, portable CMM arms, and laser scanning equipment to verify first articles in‑process components in a low‑volume / high‑mix.
  • Perform mechanical inspection using a surface plate and other manual gauging inspection tools.
  • Work directly with engineers to review designs, project requirements, and provide analysis of results.
  • Assist machinists with measuring critical dimensions both in the QC lab and at the machine.
  • Proactively track, document, and provide direct feedback with clear communication to management, engineers, and machinists on design, process, project status, and outcomes.
  • Identify, present, plan, and implement lab and shop improvements.
  • Maintain and coordinate calibrations of inspection equipment.
  • Keep your workplace clean and organized.
  • Perform all assignments in a safe manner while adhering to security policies.
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years experience in CMM programming in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with Calypso, Poly Works, or other equivalent software.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, documents, and GD&T.
  • Thorough knowledge in the use of measurement and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, bore gauges, optical comparator, etc.
  • Ability to efficiently program and operate multiple work‑centers simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to develop and present technical information through verbal, email, text, phone, Microsoft Office suite, and other digital communication platforms.
  • Positive energy and attitude, with a passion for prototyping and metrology.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, analytical skills, and time management.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility, ability to work overtime on short notice based on strategic needs of the company.

Expected Compensation: $27.52 - $55.80/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay may vary depending on market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Total compensation may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
