Position: Director of Nursing (DON)

Position Summary

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing and directing all nursing operations within the facility, ensuring high-quality patient care and compliance with regulatory standards. The DON provides leadership to the nursing team, develops policies, and collaborates with other healthcare professionals to enhance patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: bachelor’s or master’s degree in nursing (BSN/MSN) required.
  • Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of nursing experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and communication skills. Proficiency in healthcare regulations and compliance.
  • Additional

    Certifications:

    BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications may be required.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Management:
    • Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs.
    • Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and best practices.
    • Ensure staffing levels meet the needs of patients and regulatory requirements.
  • Patient Care & Quality Assurance:
    • Monitor and evaluate the quality of nursing care provided to patients.
    • Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
    • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and accrediting agency regulations.
  • Training & Development:
    • Organize ongoing training programs and continuing education for nursing staff.
    • Ensure staff is up to date with certifications, competencies, and best practices.
  • Budgeting & Resource Management:
    • Develop and manage the nursing department’s budget.
    • Ensure the efficient use of medical supplies and resources.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work closely with physicians, administrators, and other departments to ensure cohesive patient care.
    • Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, patients, and families, addressing concerns and ensuring satisfaction.
Work Environment
  • May require long hours and on‑call availability.
  • Combination of office and clinical environment.
