Assistant Controller

We are a well-established, multi-entity organization with a collaborative accounting team supporting a complex and growing business. We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller who enjoys leading people while remaining close enough to the work to understand the details.

This position plays an important role within the accounting team, with a primary focus on Accounts Payable leadership, vendor management and 1099 administration across multiple entities, while also supporting broader accounting responsibilities and shifting business priorities.

The Assistant Controller will take primary responsibility for overseeing the Accounts Payable team and AP function supporting multiple entities. This includes vendor management and oversight of 1099s, making strong Accounts Payable knowledge and prior people-management experience especially important.

Beyond AP, this individual will work closely with accounting leadership and assist with broader accounting responsibilities, including:

• Lead and support the Accounts Payable team
• Oversee vendor management across multiple entities
• Manage the 1099 process
• Support month-end close
• Prepare and review account reconciliations and work papers
• Assist with fixed asset accounting
• Support accurate general ledger activity and financial reporting
• Assist with audit requirements and accounting projects
• Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and issues
• Partner with accounting leadership as priorities arise
• Successfully pivot between priorities when unexpected needs develop
• Work within Vista by Viewpoint
• Utilize Excel extensively within the accounting function

The prior job description also includes GAAP reporting, reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger, job costing, expense allocations, internal controls and audit support among the position’s broader accounting responsibilities.

Full-time, onsite

Compensation: $110,000–$130,000 base salary

• Previous accounting management/leadership experience
• Strong Accounts Payable knowledge
• Experience overseeing or working closely with vendors and vendor processes
• Experience with 1099s
• Strong general accounting foundation
• Experience with month-end close, reconciliations/work papers and fixed assets
• Strong Excel skills
• Experience with Vista by Viewpoint is highly valuable
• Ability to prioritize, problem-solve and change direction when business needs shift

The older description calls for a bachelor’s degree with an Accounting emphasis, 7–10+ years of professional accounting experience within construction, and Viewpoint knowledge. Since this is an older document, I’d keep those out of the public posting as absolute requirements unless the Sr. Controller confirms they’re still required.
