Under medical supervision, provide adequate, appropriate, and timely preventative, routine, specialized, and emergency medical care to all individuals residing at the Department of State Hospitals - Coalinga in need of such services, consistent with generally accepted professional standards of care. The incumbent is responsible for making professional decisions regarding general medical work and surgery, as well as for appropriate referrals for services not performed at DSH-C.

Incumbent is required to maintain professional communication with physicians, consultants, nurses, and other personnel.

DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly sexual violent predators. It is a self‑contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security and transports patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.
