All patients work with a physician‑led care team, which includes advanced practice professionals and registered dietitians.
About the RoleWe are seeking a
** Dedicated and Collaborative Obesity Medicine Physician
** to join our innovative, multidisciplinary weight management team. The position is designed for an ABOM‑certified obesity medicine physician who is eager to teach and support Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). The physician will provide direct clinical services and structured supervision for up to three APPs, helping to enhance consistency, safety, and effectiveness of patient care across the team.
- Provide direct patient care focused on evidence‑based obesity treatment and chronic weight management.
- Collaborate with APP colleagues to co‑manage a shared panel; the physician will not have a primary patient panel.
- Review charts and conduct return visits for APP patients every third visit.
- Provide treatment planning and medical management support for complex or escalated cases.
- Prescribe non‑controlled obesity medications for patients under direct care and in coordination with APPs.
- Hold weekly 30‑minute collaborative meetings and maintain 30‑minute asynchronous communication for each assigned APP.
- Ensure consistent documentation, protocols, and treatment pathways within the team.
- Assist in the professional development of APPs through mentoring, feedback, and continuing education.
- Participate in team‑based care initiatives and contribute to quality improvement efforts.
- Attend departmental meetings and contribute to program-wide quality initiatives.
- MD or DO degree, board certified and diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM).
- Minimum 5 years as an attending physician in a primary specialty.
- Licensed to practice and prescribe in California; multiple state licenses preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for patient and team interactions.
- Strong interest in mentoring, teaching, and collaborating with APPs.
- Experience working with APPs, residents, or trainees in a clinical academic setting.
- Adherence to evidence‑based obesity treatments including behavioral interventions, nutrition, and pharmacotherapy.
- Commitment to delivering patient‑centered, culturally competent care.
- Comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team with dietitians, behavioral health providers, and nursing staff.
