Position Overview

The Department of American Indian Studies seeks students as Graduate Assistants. Appointments are contingent upon adequate funding. The Graduate Assistant is a student position for those actively enrolled in a graduate program at Fresno State. Students are limited to 20‑hours of part-time work on campus.

Responsibilities
  • Assist faculty with research and preparation of course materials
  • Provide research assistance and practical experience in fields related to advanced study
  • Compile water and farm data for the San Joaquin Valley from existing Groundwater Sustainability Agency databases
  • Compile California water data from state water databases
  • Compile Tribal and Allottee data from California state databases
  • Create water maps and Tribal water maps for the San Joaquin Valley
Qualifications
  • Minimum GPA 3.0; applicants with a 3.5 or higher are preferred
  • International students must have a TOEFL score of 600 or better
  • Must enroll in at least 6 units (three of which must be graduate units) for the semester or in two courses applicable to program of study
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Previous TA experience at Fresno State considered; peer and student evaluations reviewed
  • Experience with GIS and/or other mapping software

Salary

Salary is based on Weighted Teaching Units assigned. Please check with your department for your Base Salary.
