Overview

We are looking for a qualified counselor to serve students with disabilities at Reedley College. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to curriculum responsive to the diverse student population: over 10,000 students, 71% Latinx, 1% Filipino, 3% Asian, 2% African American, 19% White, 3% multiracial. Reedley College is a Hispanic‑Serving Institution.

Essential Functions
  • Evaluate verification of disability documentation, identify functional limitations, and arrange for appropriate and reasonable accommodations.
  • Develop/revise Student Educational Contracts (SECs) and Student Educational Plans (SEPs).
  • Facilitate accommodations such as note taking, adaptive equipment, ASL interpreting, testing accommodations, etc.
  • Assist students in the matriculation process and use placement tests to determine class placement.
  • Provide specialized academic, career, personal, and disability‑management counseling to adult students with disabilities.
  • Monitor and track students’ academic performance and progress toward degree objectives.
  • Maintain confidential records and complete data entry for mandated reports.
  • Advocate for students with disabilities and collaborate with instructors, faculty, staff, and community resources.
  • Participate in professional development, program review, student activities, high‑school outreach, and faculty committees.
  • Provide in‑service training for faculty, staff, and community.
  • Work Monday‑Friday, possibly evenings and Saturdays.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling or one of the following: counseling, guidance counseling, student personnel, clinical or counseling psychology, education counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, marriage, family and child counseling.
  • Or a bachelor’s degree in marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling plus a valid license as an MFT and either 15+ semester units of graduate‑level coursework related to people with disabilities, six semester units of counseling practicum or field work in a DSPS program, or two years full‑time experience (or equivalent) in counseling students with disabilities or in work with people with disabilities.
  • Valid California Community College Credential.
  • Evidence of responsiveness to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience counseling students in college‑level DSPS programs.
  • Experience working with students of various cultural backgrounds.
  • Recent experience counseling African American, Latinx, Native American, or other racially minoritized students and understanding of exclusion patterns.
  • Willingness to examine and improve relational practices to support racially minoritized students.
  • Knowledge of community college mission and goals.
  • Knowledge of ADA, Section 504, and Section 508.
  • Experience with learning disabilities assessment.
  • Effective communication with students and staff.
  • Proficient with technology.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to contribute to institutional vitality and growth.
Salary and Benefits

Starting rates $38.30 - $52.05 for non‑instructional work. Sick leave accrual based on assignment hours.
