Madera Community College seeks to hire part-time Philosophy instructors who are equity-minded and committed to student success. The successful candidate will be an equity-minded leader who collaborates with faculty, classified staff, administration, students and community partners to close equity gaps. An equity-minded individual understands accountability for closing equity gaps, reframes inequities as a problem of practice, encourages positive race-consciousness, supports culturally responsive teaching and learning environments, and builds support for equity-related initiatives across internal and external communities.

Madera Community College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution dedicated to educating racially and socioeconomically diverse students.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a part-time schedule of Philosophy courses as assigned.
  • Use a variety of pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including innovative uses of technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff.
  • Apply effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum outlines of record.
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc., in alignment with course objectives.
  • Provide course syllabi to students and maintain classroom records per District Policy.
  • Submit all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
  • Fulfill teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students and equity-minded practices in the classroom.

  • Master’s in Philosophy; or
  • Bachelor’s in Philosophy and Master’s in Humanities or Religious Studies; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities.
  • Experience with racially minoritized students; understanding of exclusion patterns in higher education.
  • Willingness to examine and improve instructional practices to engage racially minoritized students.
  • Experience working with students of diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds; including students with disabilities.
  • Experience with underrepresented student populations and ability to support students across sociocultural and socioeconomic diversities.
  • Experience facilitating multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience with, and sensitivity to, under-prepared and high-need students; collaborative work with faculty and staff to enhance instruction and student success.
  • Ability to work with computers and technologies used in instruction and student support; effective communication with students and staff.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials; knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
Salary and Benefits
  • Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
  • Salary placements are based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
  • Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
