Position: Art Instructor (Full-Time, Tenure-Track) Madera Community College

Essential Functions of Position

Teaching Responsibilities
  • Teach a full schedule of developmental and transfer level Art courses as assigned, including Drawing, 2‑D Design, Computer Graphics, Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or 2‑D Animation;
  • Incorporate historical and contemporary design practices into instruction;
  • Coordinate scheduling of part‑time instructors and lab assistants;
  • Oversee ordering of materials and equipment;
  • Oversee care, maintenance and safety of the lab/classroom;
  • Serve on and attend department, college and district committees as needed;
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off‑campus and large group instruction classes as needed;
  • Otherwise fulfill all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in Fine Arts, Art or Art History; or
  • Bachelor’s in Fine Arts, Art or Art History AND Master’s in Humanities;
  • Valid California Community College Credential; or
  • Equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience and skill incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with racially minoritized students in the classroom and understanding how historical patterns of exclusion shape participation and outcomes;
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to engage racially minoritized students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers and other technologies to support instruction;
  • Demonstrated ability to hone student artistic identity through visual and material research built on strong technical skills and process integration;
  • Recent exhibition record; and
  • Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
