The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

    Responsibilities

    Under the direction of the Police Academy Director, the Adjunct Faculty employees will report to the Director or Academy Coordinator. The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for the module of instruction assigned by the Academy Coordinator. Providing instruction in Police Academy for Fresno City College, the instructor will be responsible for:

    • Teaching a part-time schedule of Police Academy courses as assigned;
    • Applying effective communication skills;
    • Providing feedback to students when necessary;
    • Motivating, advising, and coaching students;
    • Enforcing Academy Safety Guidelines;
    • Ensuring cadets are knowledgeable of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Testing and Training Specifications for their module of instruction;
    • Providing remedial instruction;
    • Acting as a role model and mentor for students;
    • Acting as a customer service representative for the Academy;
    • Attending Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) related workshops when required;
    • Maintaining the highest degree of ethical standards;
    • Maintaining awareness of current developments and research in the field of expertise;
    • Demonstrating commitment to the profession (Code of Ethics);
    • Developing relationships with Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST);
    • Developing relationships with Standard and Training for Corrections (STC);
    • Maintaining ethical standards with American Association of University Professors (AAUP) ethical standards statement (1940 revised 1987);
    • Using a variety of pedagogies and integrating a wide range of instructional delivery systems including innovative and creative uses of technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats;
    • Communicating effectively with students, faculty, and staff;
    • Using effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, adherence to Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) approved curriculum course outlines of record;
    • Evaluating student progress through tests and examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc. in keeping with course objectives;
    • Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed;
    • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications

    All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; and

    • Associate degree and six (6) years of full-time equivalent professional experience;
    • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of full-time equivalent professional experience;
    • A valid California Community College Credential;
