Position: English Instructor (Full-Time, Tenure Track) Madera Community College

Overview

Posting Number AA – English Instructor (Full‑Time, Tenure Track) – Madera Community College, Madera Campus. Start Date 08/05/2026.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a full schedule of English composition and composition‑support courses as needed.
  • Implement practices that develop writing skills at all levels.
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning.
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as required.
  • Teach in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evenings, weekends, online, and off‑campus (e.g., dual enrollment at local high schools).
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as per Administrative Regulation 7122.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition (or equivalent).
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the above and Master’s in linguistics or TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism.
  • Valid California Community College Credential (or equivalency).
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students, especially regarding equity‑minded practice in the classroom.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to engage racially minoritized students.
  • Experience teaching transfer‑level English and English composition and literature courses.
  • Knowledge of current theories and methodology for teaching writing and assessment methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Experience with distance education and technology‑enabled instruction.
  • Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
Conditions of Employment

178 duty days per year. Starting annual salary $71,054 – $106,970 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. Attractive fringe benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and CalSTRS retirement benefits.

Selection Procedure

Applications will be screened for completeness and minimum qualifications. A selection advisory committee will review candidates and invite selected applicants to interview. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of 03/09/2026 (first level) and the week of 03/30/2026 (final). A hiring recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Trustees for final approval.
