The ideal candidate will join a department dedicated to curriculum responsive to the students it serves and participate in culturally relevant professional development.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a part-time schedule of Physical Education courses as assigned;
  • Utilize a variety of pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats;
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff;
  • Apply effective teaching methods aligned with approved curriculum outlines of record;
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, assignments, and other assessments in line with course objectives;
  • Provide course syllabi and maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy;
  • Submit all required grading and evaluation reports timely;
  • Deliver teaching in a variety of instructional settings and times as needed;
  • Fulfill duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of diverse backgrounds of community college students as they relate to equity-minded practice in the classroom:

  • Master’s in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education; or
  • Bachelor’s in any of the above and Master’s in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy; or
  • A valid California Community College Credential; or
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Note: If posted degrees do not match exactly, you must petition for equivalency.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities;
  • Experience with racially minoritized students and understanding of exclusionary patterns in higher education;
  • Willingness to examine and improve instructional practices for racially minoritized students;
  • Experience with students of diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds;
  • Experience supporting underrepresented student populations, such as students of color and foster youth;
  • Experience facilitating multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds;
  • Experience with under-prepared and high-need students in community college settings;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction and student success;
  • Technology proficiency for providing high-quality instruction and support;
  • Effective communication with students and staff;
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials; and
  • Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
Salary and Benefits
  • Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
  • Salary placements are based on education and experience per the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
  • Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
