The instructor will provide instruction in Art for Fresno City College and be responsible for teaching a part-time schedule of Art courses, delivering instruction via a variety of pedagogies and delivery systems, including face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats, and maintaining effective communication with students, faculty and staff. The role requires adherence to approved curriculum outlines and timely submission of grading and evaluation reports.
Responsibilities- Teaching a part-time schedule of Art courses as assigned.
- Using a variety of pedagogies and integrating instructional delivery systems, including technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
- Communicating effectively with students, faculty and staff.
- Using effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adherence to institutionally approved course outlines of record.
- Evaluating student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc., in keeping with course objectives.
- Providing course syllabi to students.
- Maintaining classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
- Turning in all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
- Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
- Other duties as assigned and fulfilling all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students in relation to equity-minded practice in the classroom. And
- Master’s in fine arts, art, or art history; or
- Bachelor’s in any of the above and Master’s in humanities; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
Please Note: Master’s in fine arts refers to a master’s degree in the subject matter of fine arts (including visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, metal and jewelry art) and does not refer to the MFA in performing arts or other nonplastic arts. If degrees posted on transcripts do not match exactly, petition for equivalency.
Desirable Qualifications- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
- Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding of historical exclusion patterns in higher education.
- Willingness to examine and improve instructional, relational, and classroom practices to better support racially minoritized students.
- Related work and professional experience.
- Experience with students from diverse cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
- Experience facilitating multicultural and cross-cultural communication with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
- Experience with under-prepared and high-need students in the community college setting.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction and student success.
- Proficiency with computers and technologies used in delivering high-quality instruction and student support.
- Strong communication with students and staff; knowledge of current assessment methods and materials; knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
- Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
- Salary placements are based on education and experience as outlined in the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
- Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
