Graduate Assistant for the Department of Educational Leadership

The Department of Educational Leadership invites applicants for a position as a departmental Graduate Assistant. The department’s faculty prepares candidates to effectively lead in educational organizations. Graduates serve in leadership roles in diverse settings such as public and private schools, colleges, universities, and related educational agencies. We offer three graduate programs:
Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership, Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration and Leadership (HEAL), and the P12 Administration Program.
The Graduate Assistant is a paraprofessional staff member in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. Through service in this role the GA will develop core competencies within the ACPA / NASPA professional competency areas and support the Department Chair, Faculty, and Staff in developing programs and processes to promote the work of faculty and students, focusing on departmental promotion and community engagement.
The ideal GA will have experience in community outreach in higher education.
- Develop processes and strategies to foster engagement with the Educational Leadership community—including students, alumni, the larger Fresno State community, and prospective students—across all three graduate programs.
- Collaborate with department staff and faculty to create and maintain a system for tracking program alumni, updating their contact information, and identifying opportunities for alumni to connect with current students and community members.
- Support coordination of cross-departmental programs such as alumni events, the Higher Education Student Affairs, Central Valley Conference, and other annual department events and socials.
- Develop and support departmental processes for social media engagement, programmatic promotion, and recruitment, and produce digital or printed materials to support outreach and programs.
- Connect with college and department colleagues to identify departmental alumni, collect information from them, and share on social media and the program website.
- Assist departmental program coordinators in identifying potential community partners.
- Minimum GPA 3.0 (3.5 or higher preferred)
- Must enroll in at least 6 units (three graduate units) for the semester or be enrolled in two courses applicable to the program of study.
- Earned Bachelor’s degree.
- Must be enrolled in the HEAL master’s program at Fresno State.
- International students must have a TOEFL score of 600 or better.
- Experience working in higher education and/or student affairs (including paraprofessional experiences).
- Experience developing and delivering surveys using Google Forms and Qualtrics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with Google Suite and MS Office.
- Understanding of social justice and equity issues in education.
- Desire to develop student affairs professional competencies.
- Interest in supporting graduate student success.
- Experience analyzing and reporting survey data.
- Experience using Mailchimp and Canva online software.
- Curriculum Vitae or résumé (academic CV equivalent).
- Current unofficial transcripts from undergraduate and graduate education (combined into one document).

Graduate Assistants may be evaluated per CBA Unit 11 Article 8.
SalaryMonthly salary is based on Weighted Teaching Units (WTUs) assigned. Each department has its own salary scale; please check with the department for the base salary. The CSU salary schedule (Class Code 2355) can be found online.
Assignments and Duties FormAssignments are made by the Department Chair or Program Coordinator, and a Duties Form (Appendix E of the CBA) will be completed to substantiate the jobs included.
