Overview
Fresno City College seeks an equity-minded Theatre Arts Instructor (part-time) to serve a racially, socioeconomically, and culturally diverse student population. The successful candidate will be an equity-minded leader committed to student success achieved through collaboration with faculty, classified staff, administration, students and community partners who are dedicated to closing equity gaps. An equity-minded educator holds educators accountable for closing equity gaps, views inequities as a problem of practice, and supports culturally responsive teaching and learning environments.
Leaders should be open to culturally relevant professional development and prepared to work with the student-centered culture of Fresno City College. The department focuses on curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Responsibilities- Teach a part-time schedule of Theatre Arts courses as assigned.
- Use a variety of pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including innovative and creative uses of technology for face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff.
- Apply effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines of record.
- Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc., in keeping with course objectives.
- Provide course syllabi to students.
- Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy and submit all required grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
- Accept teaching assignments in various instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
- Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students; equity-minded practice in the classroom.
- Master’s or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance; or
- Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance and Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
Note: If degrees do not match exactly, equivalency petition may be required.
Desirable Qualifications- Experience incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities.
- Experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding of historical patterns of exclusion.
- Commitment to examining and improving instructional and relational practices to support diverse students.
- Experience with working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
- Experience with underrepresented student populations and supporting students across sociocultural and socioeconomic diversities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance instruction and student learning support.
- Familiarity with educational technology used to deliver high-quality instruction.
- Newly hired part-time faculty will be placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
- Salary placements are based on education and experience per the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
- Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
