Department Overview
Temporary Faculty Pool – Lecturer in Africana Studies
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses including AFRS 10:
Introduction to Africana Studies, AFRS 15:
Slavery and the American Experience, AFRS 20:
Critical Thinking About Race, AFRS 27:
Black Popular Culture, AFRS 68:
Black Protest, and AFRS 40:
Law Policing and the Black Community, or other courses as needed. - Prepare, deliver, and assess instruction; conduct office hours, grading, proctoring, and administer quizzes, projects, midterm and final exams.
- Adhere to university and system-wide policies (Academic Policy Manual 306 paragraph
2).
Appointments are contingent upon budget, enrollment, and collective bargaining provisions. Eligibility to work in the United States is required.
Compensation- Salary ranges are within the CSU Salary Schedule, Class Code 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers.
- Temporary Faculty with a Master’s degree earn $5,507–$6,677 per month for full-time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of the range.
Positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Applicants may need to begin teaching on short notice.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree with an emphasis in Africana Studies or a closely related field.
- Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced through prior teaching experience, evaluations, or other evidence.
- A rolling review of applications continues. Review may begin as early as April 1, 2025 for a Fall 2025 assignment.

June 30, 2025. - Deadline for Spring 2026:
