The Department of Media, Communications and Journalism offers courses in advertising, broadcast and digital journalism, film, photography, public relations, and video production.
Position SummaryWe seek qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses including MCJ 15:
Filmmaking; MCJ 17:
Photojournalism; and other classes identified as needed to meet current student educational goals.
Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade lectures; hold office hours; design and assign homework, quizzes, class projects, midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Conditional AppointmentAppointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the Order of Work in the California State University–California Faculty Association agreement. U.S. work‑eligibility is required.
CompensationSalary commensurate with qualifications within the CSU Salary Schedule for Academic Year Lecturers (Class Code 2358). For a Master’s degree holder the range is $5,507–$6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs); salaries adjust with WTUs assigned.
Anticipated SemesterTemp‑faculty pool is continuously open, with positions filled as needed. Available semesters:
- Fall 2025:
August 18 – December 22, 2025 - Spring 2026:
January 15 – May 22, 2026
- Education:
Ph.D. or MFA in media, communication, journalism, or a related field with an emphasis in film/media arts. - Experience:
Demonstrated commitment to excellence built on merit, talent, diversity, accessibility, and equal opportunity for all.
- Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level RG evidence through prior teaching experience and evaluations.
- Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
