Job Summary
The Senior Estimator will provide technical assistance in support of the sales department, performing job walks, design & build scope development, proposal writing, budgeting, estimating, project schedule preparation, value analysis, regulatory compliance, material takeoff and labor hours for all types of construction delivery methods involving HVAC systems retrofit, major service repair, piping, and sheet metal.
Review construction documents and/or prepare sketches on the proposed retrofit solution and prepare the final estimate package to ensure accuracy and completeness before formal proposal submission.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Actively gather information for each estimating job by talking directly with the account manager, the end user, the engineering team, the estimating team, vendors, and/or other sources of information.
- Interpret field conditions to determine project direction and to provide costs associated with large‑scale mechanical retrofit projects without the use of drawings, plans, or specifications.
- Submit written proposals, scopes of work, project scheduling, engineering solutions that comply with regulatory agencies, and estimating, including conceptual estimates, project delivery methods, construction economic and accounting principles, and operational leadership focusing on synergistic harmony between departments and processes.
- Generate sales proposals and Excel spreadsheets that are complete and accurate for the proposed project and that comply with Title 24.
- Perform constructability and code compliance reviews of the proposal, estimate, design documents, or engineered solution and effectively document and communicate constructability and risk concerns.
- Understand and have a working knowledge of the California Mechanical Code and local municipal codes.
- Compile thorough and detailed lists of qualifications, clarifications, and exclusions to communicate our budget assumptions to the client effectively.
- Prepare accurate replacement equipment list, sheet metal, piping, and labor estimates.
- Obtain scopes of work and pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Assist with pricing change orders.
- Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of Estimating, Engineering, Construction Management, or Business Management experience.
- 4+ years’ experience with HVAC design and building construction.
- Knowledge of the practical application of mechanical engineering, including redline‑designs, design techniques, plans and specifications and the RFQ & RFP process for the budgeting and bidding of retrofit projects.
- Thorough knowledge of the mechanical retrofitting of commercial buildings, hospitals, data centers, K‑14, and universities, including energy projects that involve integration, DDC, engineering, commissioning, M&V, and energy analysis.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the mechanical retrofit of commercial buildings.
- Competent technical knowledge of the construction means and methods of mechanical construction, including retrofit projects, budgeting, engineering redline designs, scheduling, phasing, and planning.
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control all aspects of the bidding process.
- Self‑starter, strong work ethic, get‑the‑job‑done attitude, and overall team player.
- Ability to work with the customer to find mutually satisfactory solutions to complex issues.
- Ability to work with management and various skilled & unskilled salespeople, professionals, administrative, and industry personnel.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word.
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.

Compensation Range$135,000 – $145,000 per year.
