NV5 is seeking to fill several Structure Representative positions to support our work across California.
ResponsibilitiesThe structure representative is responsible for the technical and administrative control of the structure elements of a locally administered project.
- Ensure compliance with the construction contract requirements and shop drawings prepared by the contractor.
- Perform calculation and acceptance of temporary structures used in construction of bridges and structures, including falsework, temporary shoring, working platforms and temporary supports.
- Verify field dimensions, including vertical and horizontal control for structures.
- Review submittals such as shop drawings, product data, samples, test samples and QA plans submitted by the contractor.
- Verify compliance with applicable regulations controlling work, including CAL/OSHA and SWPPP.
- Inspect construction progress to ensure procedures and materials comply with specifications and to observe work in progress for conformance with requirements and acceptable workmanship.
- Prepare reports, opinions and recommendations for review by team leaders before submission to clients concerning the structures.
- Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes and technical adequacy of design and construction.
- Perform general office administration, including report reproduction, collation and deliveries.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- California Professional Engineer (PE) License.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with heavy civil transportation projects, including bridge and/or structural construction.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience with Caltrans construction methods and practices.
- Relevant past work experience performing field engineering tasks of increasing responsibility.
- Knowledge of stress analysis, structural mechanics and strength of materials.
- A thorough understanding of Cal-OSHA practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Caltrans and Greenbook construction practices and the characteristics and properties of various bridge construction materials, including concrete.
- Experience in foundations, pile driving and CIDH piles, concrete prestressing, bridge deck construction, cast‑in‑place wall construction, falsework and shoring.
- Ability to use an automatic level and transit for verifying line and grade.
- Thorough understanding of Caltrans field methods, practices and construction office procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Business Development experience.
- Local agency and rail experience.
- Storm water Pollution and Prevention Plan implementation.
- Multi‑discipline and agency coordination.

The pay range for this California position is $–$200,000 per year. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial and other benefits, depending on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location and level of experience.
