Experienced Medical Assistants and/or new Medical Assistant graduates are welcomed!

• Work directly with our Optometrist provider and strive to go above and beyond; listen to patients and provide excellent patient care.
• Read patient prescriptions, educate patients on lens and frame choices, and explain insurance benefits and coverage of vision supplies.
• Assist patients in the optical area with fitting, ordering and dispensing of eyeglasses or contact lenses as directed by the optometrist.
• Maintain optical boards by restocking and accounting for glasses in the OPTIK electronic program; ensure glasses are cleaned regularly.
• Maintain, organize and reconcile optical inventory; facilitate the provision of information needed by patients and clinicians in the optical area.
• Ensure smooth and well-connected patient flow after eye exams and assist in delivering vision supplies to fully correct vision.
• Report to the lead optician and optometry director; work closely with the optometrist and lead optician.
• Provide prompt optical support, promote smooth patient flow, collect and record data accurately, and maintain order of optical and vision supplies.
• Provide basic education and information to patients; alleviate anxieties and interface with community activities and staff.
• Communicate consistently with supervisor and all staff; work flexible or extended hours where necessary.
• Participate in health center in-services and meetings; listen to and respect others’ ideas; abide by confidentiality rules.

• High School graduate or GED.
• Preferred past optical experience or optician license.

• Possess a valid CPR certificate.
• Preferred Optician license.

• Minimum 2 years of experience in an optical setting.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required.
• Able to quickly build and maintain rapport with patients and providers of differing backgrounds; team player.
• Customer-service oriented; strong computer skills; familiarity with adult learning and general training techniques.
• Positive professional insight; flexibility and dependability; good problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
• Effective leadership/supervisory skills; modern office practices and procedures including email; intermediate computer skills; attention to detail and excellent follow-through on tasks.
• Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and push up to 50 pounds (on wheels).
• Must be able to hear and speak clearly to communicate with patients and staff.
• Must be able to read memos, screens, forms, and documents; high manual dexterity; ability to reach above shoulder level, bend, squat, sit, stand, stoop, crouch, twist/turn.

The pay range for this non-exempt position starts at $21 an hour. Our salary ranges depend on knowledge, skills, and experience. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:
