General Liability Trial Attorney (Northern California)
Zurich North America is looking for a Liability Trial Attorney to join our in‑house staff legal team. The attorney will represent commercial insureds of a prestigious, financially stable commercial insurance carrier and will prepare and try high‑complexity, high‑exposure General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.

Responsibilities- Achieve best outcomes for clients by demonstrating technical excellence in case handling, trial preparation and presentation for cases of moderate technical complexity.
- Drive positive results by applying the law and legal trends, conducting legal analysis and research, preparing pleadings and documents, managing pre‑trial discovery, and participating in hearings and trials.
- Update case files accurately and in compliance with best practices.
- Collaborate with the claims adjuster to develop case strategy, resolve matters in a timely fashion, and appropriately escalation issues.
- Provide proactive customer service, communicating clearly and responding to inquiries.
- Determine and implement alternative dispute resolution techniques with effective mediation and negotiation skills.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge through educational opportunities, industry trends, professional societies, and networking.
- Collaborate with the team on related matters and contribute to its success.
- Ensure legal compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
- Serve as a technical resource, mentoring lower‑level attorneys or legal support staff.
- Protect Zurich’s reputation by maintaining claims‑related confidentiality.
- Juris Doctor and 5+ years experience in litigation.
- Member of the bar in good standing where the practice is located.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe, Lexis and Westlaw.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and insurance defense litigation.
- Strong understanding of law and procedure.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Experience working in a team‑based environment.
- Collaboration and problem‑solving abilities.
Proposed salary range for this position is $ – $ with a short‑term incentive bonus eligibility of 10%.
