Registered Nurse First Assistant RNFA Full Time Surgery Department
Reporting to the Nurse Manager
* of Surgery, the RN First Assistant is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process. The RN First Assistant provides direct care perioperatively under the supervision of a surgeon as a first assistant during surgical procedures, employing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RNFA is responsible for managing the care of assigned patients and directing the activities of ancillary nursing staff.
The RNFA interacts with patients and their families and collaborates with other health team providers to render quality care.

Requirements- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California is required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR card is required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.
- Five (5) years of peri‑operative RN experience, including at least five (5) years as a scrub or circulating nurse, is required.
- Successful completion of an approved AORN RNFA program, including a supervised clinical component, is required.
- Bachelor’s degree and current RNFA certification is preferred.
- RN First Assistant applications must be approved by the Medical Staff office for allied health personnel.
- Successful completion of an annual review performed by the surgeon sponsor is required to maintain privileges, and an annual employee performance review by designated Surgical Services Leadership is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and health care personnel.
- Ability to handle varying issues in the midst of any situation and work effectively both individually and as part of a team in a high‑stress environment.
Pay range $71.03 - 102.99
