Bioprocess Production Engineer – Aarberg, Switzerland

To support the further development of our mycoprotein production facility, planetary is searching for an experienced (Bio)-process engineer with proven industrial experience to support us at our 50kL production site in Aarberg, canton of Bern. In this position you will carry out development, upscaling and production up to 50k L for external clients and internal products in batch and continuous production.

The Position:

• Further optimize and operate our mycelium biomass (mycoprotein) fermentation process from 300 to 50 m3 scale
• Involves routine production of mycoprotein at 50 m3 scale
• Be part of a team involved in the implementation of a continuous production process for mycoprotein at 50 m3 scale
• Requires flexible working hours involving being part of a team involved in shift working
• Requires strong discipline and ability to follow directives from line managers
• Requires ability to operate a range of equipment and utilities under carefully controlled food grade conditions
• Involves ability to trouble-shoot and resolve technical problems
• Involves a very hands-on, practical approach to fermentation processes for food ingredient production

Qualifications and

Experience:

• Motivated to join an impact-focused industrial firm, seeking to do well by doing good and scaling up the alternative protein industry.
• BSc, MSc or CFC in a suitable field of food technology, microbiology, fermentation technology, process engineering or related field
• 3 or more years of prior experience in the development and implementation of robust industrial fermentation or chemical processes
• Hands-on experience and knowledge of industrial manufacturing conditions for food manufacturing
• Strongly motivated to work within start-up, team environment and desire to learn new concepts and ideas
• Good command in German is a plus

Planetary is looking for an experienced Bioprocess Engineer with expertise in factory and plant design, infrastructure, regulations, and finished product formulations.

Qualifications and

Experience:

• Successfully completed university studies in chemical or bioprocess engineering or related disciplines
• +5 years of experience of process engineering design possibly within the biotech industry
• Experience and familiarity with designing for delivery/implementation and associated project construction and execution
• Professional experience in industrial biotechnology, especially in the area of process development/scaling
• Ability to perform process development involving multiple disciplines (e.g., product isolation and purification) in cross-functional and cross-site teams
• Familiarity with modern CAE packages and interfaces for process plant design
• Evidence of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• English is required, German is a plus
