Full Stack Engineer

Verisign is looking for a Mid level software engineer with a strong foundation in full-stack development to join the ODIN team.

An ideal candidate is fluent in Java, has practical knowledge of databases, developed and deployed production-grade software, and is eager to learn as needed. In the candidate, we seek an understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including core Computer Science concepts, as well as hands‑on problem‑solving experience building software systems. Obtaining these competencies often requires an equivalent of a master’s degree and 8+ years of hands‑on work experience.

The candidate will be involved in all aspects of product development including ideation, design, implementation, deployment, and issue resolution. This will usually imply cross‑team collaboration with Product, Engineering, Security and Operations.

ODIN is a critical central hub for account management, product catalog, and authentication. ODIN leverages industry leading technologies, including Java, Tomcat, Postgre

SQL, Hazelcast, and Docker to build a high-performance scalable application.

Our team possesses complete engineering ownership over the product. The work style of the team is closer to an internal startup where all the team members are involved in the majority of product development phases and are flexible moving between focus areas. This is a global team located in both Reston, Virginia and Fribourg, Switzerland.

In terms of the process, we rely on Scrum to structure our work, with tickets prioritized in Jira. Our code is located on internal Git Hub; we follow Git Flow with pull request code reviews and extensive automation. For continuous delivery, we use Jenkins with pipelines and our product deployments are automated with Terraform and Ansible. The product can be rolled out to our internal cloud, from zero to the operating state in a single button click.

We do builds for each codebase change as well as nightly builds. We have automated testing with substantial coverage.

• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 5+ years Java coding experience in full stack production applications
• Practical knowledge of databases (we use Postgre
  
  SQL), including schema design, queries, performance
• Knowledge of Java code testing, test automation
• Have experience in deployment automation and workflow automation, CI/CD, Jenkins
• Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment
• Great communication, problem‑solving ability and teamwork skills
• Good planning and organizational skills
• Self‑starter with self‑initiative and direction
• Experience with Dev Ops, including Ansible and Terraform
• Experience with caching solutions (we use Hazelcast)
• Experience with Docker

This position is based in our Fribourg, Switzerland office and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule.

Fribourg is a historic city in Switzerland with one of the largest medieval towns preserved in Europe. Multiple languages and cultures intermix here, the city has a bilingual status, symbolically bridging Latin and Germanic cultures.

Fribourg enjoys a convenient central location with Bern and Lausanne in a commute distance reachable by a direct train or highway. Direct trains to three cities with international airports, namely Geneva, Zurich, and Basel are available for those who enjoy travel. The Verisign office is located in Villars‑sur‑Glâne, next to the A12 highway exit, ten minutes from the Fribourg train station.
