We are a $130M and growing organization seeking a Controller with mid‑range tenure to oversee core accounting operations, drive process improvements, and deliver accurate, timely financial information that supports decision‑making across the business.
EssentialJob Duties
- Manage and mentor accounting team members, including the Senior Tax Accountant and AP Manager, fostering growth, collaboration, and accountability.
- Lead and manage the monthly closing process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Identify and implement improvements in accounting operations, reporting, and system integrations to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Oversee preparation and review of financial results at a regional level, ensuring alignment with overall corporate objectives.
- Guide the transition to accrual recognition for material costs; play a key role in integrating data from three systems into a cohesive and accurate financial output.
- Partner with the Director of Finance to support financial planning and ongoing forecast tracking, ensuring performance is measured against expectations and actionable insights are provided.
- Leverage Sage ERP to generate actionable financial insights tailored for executives, operational managers, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee processes to ensure accurate fleet‑related financial data is captured and utilized to manage vehicle costs.
- Manage the annual insurance renewal process and oversee the handling of liability claims throughout the year.
- Payroll Oversight:
Over time, assume responsibility for overseeing payroll execution in Paylocity, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and seamless coordination with HR. - Oversight of the annual 401K audit.
- 7–12 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- At least 3 years in a leadership role with direct reports.
- BA in Accounting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual‑based accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead month‑end close processes and produce accurate, actionable financial statements.
- Proven track record of driving process improvements and systems integration.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team.
- Experience with payroll oversight for multiple states.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to both financial and non‑financial audiences.
- CPA or lapsed CPA designation preferred.
- Experience in financial planning, budgeting, and variance/forecast tracking.
- Familiarity with Paylocity payroll systems (or ability to quickly learn and apply).
- Experience with Sage ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- The ability to lift and carry up to 10lbs.
- Sitting for long periods of time; occasionally bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching.
- Read printed materials and a computer screen.
- Stamina needed to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
- You must possess the mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, keyboard, and telephone.
