Parks Maintenance Worker

Purpose of the Job

To maintain and uphold the City of Friendswood’s parks, buildings, grounds, and structures.

• Assist in constructing and maintaining park facilities and city buildings.
• Perform routine grounds maintenance including watering, fertilizing, cutting grass, trimming trees and hedges, planting plants, filling in holes, and picking up litter and debris.
• Drive trucks, tractors, mowers, and other vehicles to perform maintenance duties.
• Operate weed eaters, edgers, power saws, and other equipment.
• Service and clean vehicles and equipment.
• Perform routine facility maintenance including plumbing repairs, carpentry, painting, electrical work, air conditioning repair, and irrigation repair and installation.
• Digs and fills holes and ditches.
• Assist with setting up the annual Fourth of July, Santa in the Park, Holiday Hustle Fun Run, and other departmental sponsored events.
• Operate the mosquito spraying truck to fumigate the City.
• Perform other duties within the areas of responsibility and ability as assigned.

• Basic knowledge of the use, care, and maintenance of hand tools, testing instruments, and small power tools.
• Basic knowledge of the operation of a tractor, generator, and mosquito sprayer.
• Advanced knowledge of plumbing, painting, carpentry, irrigation, electrical work, and basic HVAC knowledge.

Two years’ experience.

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record.

This job may require 24 hour availability in an emergency situation.
