Job Overview
The Medical Acute Dependency Unit (MADU) is a 12‑bed specialist unit providing Level 1 and Level 2 critical care for patients with a wide range of acute medical needs. The unit is equipped for full cardiac monitoring and non‑invasive ventilation and supports patients with conditions such as GI bleeds, DKA, respiratory failure, heart failure, severe electrolyte imbalances and those requiring central or arterial line monitoring.
The role is for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to work part‑time (34.50 hours) within this unit.
- A confident and adaptable nurse with strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Clinical experience in Respiratory, Acute Medicine or HDU/ITU nursing
- Evidence of professional academic development in Respiratory care, acute care and Leadership
- A commitment to high standards of patient care, safety and service improvement

- Be responsible for the development and leadership of the clinical nursing team to ensure the highest standard of care is met in line with local and national recommendations
- Current NMC registration
- ENB 998 Teaching and assessing course or equivalent Mentorship preparation course
- Degree level registration
- ILS
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult/stressful situations effectively
- Able to prioritise workload (self and others) and meet deadlines
- Leadership and influencing skills
- Supervising, teaching and assessing staff
- Evidence of academic development in acute care
- Evidence of academic development in leadership
- Experience in an HDU environment with experience caring for patients requiring NIV
- Evidence of academic professional development in the area of respiratory care
- Able to work flexible shifts, weekends and bank holidays as required
