Coordinator of Special Education Services

Coordinate the special education evaluation process, oversee ARD/IEP compliance, and collaborate with instructional teams to provide appropriate programs for students with disabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Implement the special education evaluation process and assess the learning styles and program needs of students referred for services.
  • Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to design the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the child‑centered special education process across assigned campus(es), ensuring ARD/IEP compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Collect, organize, and interpret student information from guardians and teachers, as well as assessment data from the cumulative folder and external evaluation reports.
  • Conduct classroom observations and interviews with guardians, staff, and students.
  • Review data to determine appropriate evaluation materials, procedures, and equipment.
  • Administer and interpret individual assessments to determine eligibility under federal and state regulations.
  • Complete full and individual evaluation reports in the district’s special education data management system.
  • Review evaluation results with guardians, including interpretation of data and educational needs.
  • Participate in the ARD Committee to make recommendations regarding student eligibility, placement, IEP development, and interpretation of evaluation data.
  • Manage caseload and assignments to meet compliance and timelines for evaluations, ARD/IEP meetings, and services.
  • Facilitate and/or coach staff on the implementation of quality special education programming.
  • Support the communication and application of relevant local, state, and federal laws.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with supervisors, administrators, educators, staff, students, and parents.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills and maintain confidentiality of student, parent, and school information.
  • Consult and train district staff, outside service providers, and guardians regarding disability criteria and IEP implementation.
  • Recommend interventions, instructional strategies, equipment, and educational aids to promote student independence.
  • Compile, maintain, file, and upload all reports and records within the district’s data management system.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, the State Board of Education rule, and Frisco ISD regulations.
  • Utilize the special education data management system with proficiency and accuracy.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve job-related skills and attend department and team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and support student safety, health, confidentiality, and behavior strategies.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress and, as required, assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Valid Texas Educational Diagnostician certificate.
  • Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of students with disabilities, human development, and learning theories.
  • Knowledge of special education disability conditions and their learning challenges.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal special education regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of Frisco ISD dual‑language model components, including language of instruction.
  • Familiarity with differentiation strategies and linguistic accommodations.
  • Confidence in Spanish language proficiency.
  • Familiarity with current research related to identifying disabilities in culturally and linguistically diverse students.
